Download free VST plugin effects for mixing and mastering for free in www.kvr-vst.com/get.php. As far as I know, there’s no Noise Removal plug-in available yet for free, except in Audacity. But if you want parametric EQ, multiband compressor, exciter, soft limiter, expander, classic graphic EQ, sound maximizer, and stuff like that, get it free from KVR-VST search page as mentioned above.

I have done some audio recording and editing in KRISTAL. The knobs and buttons are user friendly, easy to recognize. HTML manuals are helpful though explained in short. In previous article I was using Cakewalk Guitar Track 2.0 to convert analog cassette tape to digital audio. Cakewalk is commercial software but with KRISTAL, you pay nothing. A big plus, you can insert VST plug-in like soft limiter in real-time processing while recording.

In analog tape conversion application, noise removal is mandatory to remove tape hiss so I combine the power of Audacity which offer free noise removal effects. Although all VST plug-ins can be shared between Audacity-KRISTAL, the noise removal plug-in that Audacity carried out is incompatible with VST, if I’m not mistaken is Nyquist format. In the other hand, VST effect plug-ins can be loaded in Audacity via VST_enabler.dll but the Graphical User Interface will be disappearing.

Here’s the screenshot when I converting Panic Disorder cassette into MP3. All the conversion process from recording, editing, applying effects and mixdown were done using KRISTAL and Audacity with several free VST plug-ins. Total free!
