 Another malevolence evil-theme oriented black metal band arose from Belawan, Sumatera named Kliwon. The name was chosen from lunar calendar day, the day when the hell dwellers believed to be unleashed and terrorizing mankind on earth. Called themselves as Belawan Pure Dark Scream Harmony Sex Blackmetal (Ed note: looks like appealing description, opting "Sex" word instead of "Porn", whatever!), Kliwon has just released their first full length album titled "Elegi Nyayian Setan" (Satanic Hymn Elegy) after several album compilations.
Founded 06 June 1999 in Belawan, a port town of Sumatera, Kliwon original member consists of Harapan Lord Zabaniah(lyrics), Sangapan (Lead Guitar); Lamhot(Bass) and Fendry (Drums). Beginning of 2000 Daniel included in the band as rhythm guitarist and Kliwon began cruising underground and major stages in Medan and Belawan. Middle of 2001 Daniel replaced by Ruben due to another interest. Not along time Ruben joined the band, since he pursued academic degree and replaced by Tony.
Year 2003 was a quiet period for Kliwon since the original drummer was left. They used session drummer until 2004 the reshuffle began with adding one growl vocalist and lady voice and one permanent drummer, Adex, to enforce the sturdiness.
May 2004 Tony was left and replaced by Jonnie who originally handled rhythm duties. Adex then followed leaving the band, replaced by Jeffrie. This solid formation continues until the day when Kliwon writing on debut album.
With a masking face makeup and wacky costume like old KISS and common black metallers, Kliwon carries black metal genre influenced by Cradle of Filth, Agathodaimon, Naglfar. Obituary also named for major influencer as well. Now they have their own songs like Pro dan Kontra, Genthayangan, Elegi Nyanyian Setan, Kembali ke Tanah, Ketika Ibu Pertiwi diambang Kehancuran, Manusia Durjana, Partial Evil, and Wanita Pemuja Setan to worship in the altar of madness. They also maintain an underground community in their town called "Emperium State of Hell" - Belawan Underground Community.
