Poor Best

die on pure adrenaline album by dirty infamousIn the realm of metal music dominated with hip-hop rap-vocal turntable-metal cheesy mallgoers’ tastes steered by major media capitalist, Dirty Infamous arguably the most underrated band ever to be existed in Indonesia. The trio consists of Looth-Havox, Firmand-Guitar/Bass, Ivan-Drums terrorize the world of extreme metal with their latest album, “Die on Pure Adrenaline”, engrave the stone that Indonesian band can be as heavy as the sickest and loudest brutal blastbeat metal known to mankind.

Download Euthanasia, opening track of Dirty Infamous album, "Die on Pure Adrenaline", ripped from cassette. Other MP3 available at Rottrevore website.

Band: Dirty Infamous
Album: Die on Pure Adrenaline
Release: Rottrevore Records 2003
Track listing:
1. Euthanasia
2. Die on Pure Adrenaline
3. Unencumbered Troops
4. Terkontaminasi dalam Dimensi Basi (Contaminated in Perish Dimension)
5. Mind Destruction
6. Social Confusion
7. Endless Torment
8. War is..(Not Solution)..Bastard

No frills, no gimmick, no prolixity shit of flighty musical attitude, Dirty Infamous deliver brutal nonstop headbanging chops from start to finish packed massive palm-muting, down-tuned strings, aggressive picks into killer heavy riff yet friendly enough to nod your head in melodious ear-catchy rhythm.

IMHO the root of band refers to American Disgorge rolling at slower speed and decipherable riffing. Gigantic palm-muted low strings coalesce artificial harmonics, fast drumworks and roaring vocal like “restrained turbulence of thunder in the throat” simply put the band under death goregrind subgenre along with Disgorge, Decrepit Birth, Jasad and others. Certainly the beats aren’t as fast as Santa Cruz’s Decrepit Birth, but by adding such tasty licks all over the song with the style of Insision’s clever melodic death riff and Suffocation’s weird tempo changes, Dirty Infamous successfully stand out of their major influences and crafted their own sound signature.

Although the havoc voices sung by Mr. Looth were far from comprehend to normal human ears, the lyrics were well written capturing the sick world domination happened out there raping fragile civilization, showing the writer’s maturity vision. See the touchy big font printed on the booklet, “war is not always inevitable, it’s always a defeat for humanity”. Firmand, who’s responsible for stringed instrument handled guitar and bass duties flawlessly. Nothing to say, just listen to their music to understand his works. I mean really listen closely. The chords are changing so fast that you can’t identify, which is which, which note should be played and when, it seems easy to get lost in the middle of the song. It’s hard to memorize even the basic song structure at a glance. The pattern seems to be randomized but overall, it’s less complicated (or in other words, easier to understand, contains more familiar riff) than Decrepit Birth.

The opening track, “Euthanasia” contains bunch of artificial harmonics passages executed in weird tempos, really challenging for casual listeners, while the second track, Die on Pure Adrenaline, blasting common easy to understand riff if I’m not allowed to say “metalcore” riff. My favorite track is “Mind Destruction” which simply nailed Dirty Infamous standing out the typical metal band in my vision. The pattern is so complex and repeated in strange section over the song making it pain in the ass to memorize. All executed in blazing lightning speed demonstrating their excellent musicianship. As a rookie immature guitar player I just respectfully saying how these guys do this in live situation?

The drumming was excellent. Ivan spanked his drumkits varying snare-double kick beat, cymbals sweep and let his toms roared sometimes. The eight tracks contained truly cement Dirty Infamous, as one of band has to look at in Indonesian extreme metal scene. I wish they recorded more than eight, since the chunks of void tape are left untouched and wasted.

Production wise, I played the cassette into cheap Sony walkman run through Yamaha RH-5Ma phones, bass and guitars were mixed nicely and maintain their own clarity in low frequency region. Snare drum was okay although cymbals sounded too harsh, and kickdrum could be more percussive (the “click” sound) and punchy. Vocal should be brought ahead in the mix. Couldn’t say more to recording quality because I got the tape version, hence I would give N/A to recording rating. It would be unfair to rate a record without its CD version but it’s truly pain in the ass looking for it surrounds my neighborhood. If you need MP3 sample from CD version, go to Rottrevore website to download. It’s better quality than cassette, smoother treble and thumper kickdrum.

This is not common metal record, definitely not for every metalheads. If you like trendy million copies-sellout type of metal, I can guarantee you’ll judge this just a piece of shit. If your ears are trained enough to appreciate the beauty of ultra fast relentless chordal changes executed in gawddam low A tuning, I bet you’ll beg for more. And once you are, you’ll feel that other subgenre’s beat sounded as slow as snail creeping the F-1 racetrack. (admin-23/11/04)
